Chapter 12: Do you have any shame, you stinky Taoist priest!
Shortly after Li Xingruo and Shi Xiangwen appeared in the plaza, they drew attention.
âHey, who are you, daring to trespass in the flying boat plaza?â
From a distance, a man in armor shouted.
He and several others quickly approached, eyeing Li Xingruo and Shi Xiangwen with suspicion. The leader asked coldly:
âYou came through the internal passage? Itâs guarded by a restrictionâhow did you get through?â
The others raised their weapons, ready to expel them if their answers didnât satisfy.
Shi Xiangwen raised a hand, signaling them to hold off.
He presented his identity token to the leader. âIâm a disciple of the Huangji Sectâs Thousand Mechanism Peak, here on sect business at the immortal-demon border. My task is done, and I wish to return to the sect via the flying boat.â
âSo youâre a fellow sect member. My apologies.â After inspecting the token, the leader gestured to dismiss the guards.
Returning the token, he clasped his hands. âBrother Shi, have you and this miss eaten? Itâs mealtimeâlet me, Li Feihu, arrange something.â
âNo need to eat. We want to board the Jueyun flying boat!â Li Xingruo answered for Shi Xiangwen.
A colossal artifact that burned thousands of spirit stones per tripâsheâd be missing out if she didnât experience it.
Li Feihu glanced at her but didnât ask her identity, turning to Shi Xiangwen instead.
Understanding his look, Shi Xiangwen nodded. âWe have urgent business and must return to the sect quickly. Please arrange two tickets for the Jueyun boat, Brother Li.â
âBrother Shi, miss, itâs not that I wonât arrange it,â Li Feihu said, embarrassed and annoyed. âThe Jueyun boat⌠it canât fly right now!â
âCanât fly?â
Shi Xiangwen frowned. âBrother Li, why canât the Jueyun boat fly?â
âUgh, it makes me mad just thinking about it!â
Li Feihu slapped his palms, removed his helmet, and spat on the ground in anger.
He cursed: âDamn it, a few days ago, we were delivering cargo here with the Jueyun boat, almost arriving smoothly. But then a spirit vein erupted at Chunding Mountain outside the city, hitting the boatâs left hull. Weâve reported it to the sect, and weâre waiting for repairs.â
He punched a nearby pillar, saying to them: âThe elders scolded me during the report and docked half a yearâs resource supply. Tell me, howâs a spirit vein eruption my fault!â
Seeing Li Feihuâs frustration, Shi Xiangwen soothed, âNatural disasters are unpredictable. Itâs not your fault, Brother Li.â
Curious, Li Xingruo asked, âIf the boatâs broken, why are so many people queuing outside?â
âTheyâre not buying ticketsâtheyâre refunding them,â Li Feihu said with a bitter smile.
âI see. No wonder theyâre so frantic,â Li Xingruo said. âBrother Li, when will the Jueyun boat be fixed?â
Li Feihu sighed, calculating with his fingers. âAt least a month. The hullâs bottom was pierced by the spirit vein surge. Itâs not an easy fix.â
Hearing this, Li Xingruoâs spirits soared:
âOh, a month? What a shame!â
Her words dripped with pity, but her face betrayed barely concealed glee.
A month was more than enough to break this stinking Taoistâs seal and escape as far as possible!
Raising an eyebrow at Shi Xiangwen, she said:
âNo flying boat now. Looks like weâll wait a month here.â
âNo need to wait that long. If youâre in a hurry, Iâll send word to Fancheng to dispatch a smaller boat. Itâs faster than the Jueyun and will get you to the sect in three days!â Li Feihu offered eagerly.
ââŚâ Li Xingruoâs smile froze.
Damn you, Li Feihu, mind your own business!
Isnât fixing the Jueyun boat enough for you?
No wayâshe couldnât let Li Feihu easily summon a boat from Fancheng. This was a heaven-sent chance she had to seize!
Thinking quickly, she tugged Shi Xiangwenâs sleeve:
âLetâs not trouble Brother Li. Heâs got enough on his plate with the Jueyun boat. Why donât we go to Fancheng ourselves?â
Perhaps finding her reasoning sound, Shi Xiangwen didnât reject her this time.
Bowing to Li Feihu, he smiled: âSince the Jueyun boat is damaged and no other boats are here, weâll head to Fancheng ourselves.â
âAlright.â
Preoccupied with the Jueyun boat, Li Feihu didnât press further and agreed readily.
Scratching his head, he said, âHow about thisâIâll prepare fast horses to make your journey easier and save your spiritual energy.â
âThank you, Brother Li.â
âŚ
Leading the fast horse gifted by Li Feihu, Li Xingruo and Shi Xiangwen returned to the street.
âStinking Taoist, your Huangji Sectâs not all that. You worked so hard to build that boat, and one spirit vein surge breaks it,â Li Xingruo taunted. âAnd this Li Feihuâs ridiculous. Two of us, and he gives one horse. Whoâs supposed to ride, you or me?â
âA spirit vein surge unleashes wild energy. Hitting the boatâs weak hull bottom, damage is inevitable,â Shi Xiangwen defended the sect.
As for one horse for two, he acted like he didnât hear, staying silent.
Even he didnât understand Li Feihuâs intent. Was he complaining about unfair sect punishment by skimping on resources? Or did he assume they were a couple, giving one horse for some romantic flair?
âYou sure about going to Fancheng? Waiting for the Jueyun boat would be better,â Li Xingruo said. âThe pinnacle of immortal sect craftingâdonât you want to ride it?â
Shi Xiangwen shook his head. âA monthâs too long. Itâll delay the wedding.â
âWedding, my foot! Iâve said it a hundred timesâIâm not marrying that cripple Si Ruochen. Drag me to the Huangji Sect, and Iâll still cancel it!â
At the mention of marriage, Li Xingruo bristled like a wild cat, her eyes sharp with defiance.
She swung onto the horse, grabbing the stirrups. âLetâs go already. Get to the Huangji Sect, cancel this stupid engagement, and stop pestering me.â
Yanking the reins, she added:
âThis horse is mine to ride since you sealed my spiritual power!â
With that, she spurred the horse, galloping toward the city gate.
After a dozen meters, she leaned forward, glancing back to see Shi Xiangwen not chasing.
Heart steeled, she whipped the horseâs flank, planning to charge through the gate.
Though a mortal horse couldnât outrun a cultivator like Shi Xiangwen, she just wanted to make trouble.
Making the enemy miserable was as good as her own satisfaction.
Yet the whip never landed.
Shi Xiangwenâs figure appeared eerily behind her, deftly grabbing her wrist and snatching the whip.
âMiss Xianer, the streets are crowded. Galloping wildly could hurt someone.â
âHowâd you get up here? Iâm not sharing the horse!â
âFine, as you wish.â
âYou⌠stinking Taoist, making me run? Have you no shame!â
