Chapter 8: A Gift for the Unwell
As the sun set, we returned to the Palais Mermonia.
Of course, I took back control of the body.
I couldn’t let Purina act again.
“Ugh… we’re screwed.”
Upon reaching the office, I could only sigh at the pile of documents stacked on the desk.
“Hey, Purina.”
‘No way.’
I hadn’t even said anything yet.
“Come on, help me out a bit.”
Maybe if someone’s there to help.
‘…Just this once.’
“Heh, thanks.”
As expected, Purina can’t say no to a request like that.
Her kind nature is almost a problem.
While sorting through the documents with Purina’s help, something in the corner of the desk caught my eye.
“This is…”
There was some strange herb.
I tilted my head, unsure what it was, but Purina seemed to recognize it.
‘It’s a medicinal herb…?’
“A herb?”
‘Yeah… one that helps with mental disorders.’
“…”
At that, I tossed the herb into the trash.
“Ha, why would anyone give a perfectly fine person a herb for mental disorders?”
And to Purina, the God of Water, no less.
Isn’t this an insult to her?
“I’ll talk to Neuvillette and find out who did this.”
Fontaine’s Chief Justice, Neuvillette.
He exudes an unapproachable aura.
Is it his natural disposition?
Or is he hiding something?
Neuvillette is a solitary man.
Every person in Fontaine who tried to get close to him was politely rebuffed.
He insists on being addressed formally, so no one even knows the Chief Justice’s first name.
He believes he must remain a symbol of absolute impartiality, and personal bonds or emotions could cast doubt on the fairness of his judgments.
But lately, someone has been on his mind.
‘Purina.’
Purina, one of the seven Archons.
Recently, her behavior has been strange.
Talking to herself in the air or staring blankly into space clearly, something was off.
Neuvillette found this Purina unsettling.
Before noticing her condition, he saw her as an eccentric, annoying god.
But now, things were different.
A god with an unstable mind.
That’s how Neuvillette saw Purina now.
She was still irritating, no doubt, but he wasn’t so cold as to be harsh to someone with a mental illness.
So, hoping for her quick recovery, he decided to gift her a medicinal herb.
‘Lord Neuvillette…? Why do you need this herb…?’
‘It’s not for me. I’m getting it as a gift for an acquaintance.’
There were some misunderstandings and hiccups along the way, but he managed to acquire the herb and place it on her desk.
After offering his silent condolences to the mentally unwell Purina, Neuvillette headed to his office.
An hour later, Purina stormed in.
“Neuvillette! Who dared leave this trash on my desk?! Find out who did this right now!”
Neuvillette is truly a solitary man.
